FAQs

What benefits are available through Kokua?

  • Medical Insurance; Kaiser HMO or PPO

  • Dental Insurance; SunLife Dental

  • Vision Insurance; VSP

  • Supplemental Insurance; Aflac

  • 401k; Mutual of America

When am I eligible for benefits?

Kokua employees are eligible for benefits on the first of the month following the completion of 60 days in an official full-time schedule.

Am I required to enroll in benefits?

All benefits are optional to enroll in— you get to choose what you are interested in.

If I don’t enroll during New Employee Enrollment, can I enroll later?

Yes, you do have an opportunity to enroll later, but you may have to wait until the next open enrollment. There are several qualifying life events that may allow you to enroll outside of those. Reach out anytime to see if you are eligible to enroll.

Does the insurance cost? How is it paid for?

All insurance options offered are partially covered by Kokua and the employee is responsible to cover a smaller portion of the premium. The portion that the employee is responsible for is deducted automatically from each paycheck.

How do I enroll?

When it is time for enrollment, you will receive an SCOM with all the details for enrollment. If you confirm that you are interested in enrollment, you will then receive the enrollment documents. You must complete the enrollment documentation by the end of your eligibility month or you will miss the eligibility timeline.
